Welcome to the home of Tucson JazzWerx!Premium, Highly Focused Jazz EducationExclusive OpportunitiesJazzWerx is Tucson Jazz Society’s premier jazz education program that provides high quality education and unduplicated opportunities through its highly qualified directors and excellent teaching methods, clinics with world-renowned jazz artists, performance opportunities, partnerships with the University of Arizona and UA Presents and trips to events such as the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. JazzWerx has numerous combos under the direction of accomplished educators and musicians in addition to a jazz workshop teaching the fundamentals of improvisation for younger players. Curriculum includes improvisation, arranging and/or composition, jazz performance, technique, theory and history. In addition, part of the JazzWerx emphasis is providing good adult role modeling and community involvement. As the educational component of the Tucson Jazz Society, JazzWerx is dedicated to cultivating the next generation of jazz musicians through learning the history of the music and using that knowledge to look towards the future. Students are challenged to develop their creativity and knowledge base, pushing them to new performance heights. Rehearsals are held every Sunday during the regular school year (except holidays) at the University of Arizona School of Music. Outreach includes workshops for other students and adults, and free clinics for elementary, middle and high school bands. ![]()
