Support

JazzWerx Planning and Advisory Committee. Karen Hanshaw (Committee Chair and TJS Board Education Chair), Doug Mayes (TJS Board member), Julie McIntyre, Gordie Hixon, Carol Rosato, Stu Mellan and Andrew McIntyre (student webmaster).  This dedicated and enthusiastic group of volunteers supports the JazzWerx directors and students by performing administrative duties, developing long-range and strategic plans, and promoting the program through marketing and sponsorship development.

Tucson Jazz Society brings in professional guest artists for clinics and workshops for JazzWerx students, offers JazzWerx students $1 tickets to all St. Philips concerts (and discounted tickets for concerts in other venues) and includes TJS family memberships as part of tuition. Additionally, TJS provides opportunities for JazzWerx bands to perform for the public during their Jazz Series and special events that feature other professional jazz musicians.

University of Arizona School of Music. JazzWerx is a "lab" for UA music education students. Our students receive workshops, clinics and sectionals from UA professors, artists and interns, performance venues and opportunities, plus music technology and recording opportunities.

UA Presents. All of our students attend encounters or clinics with the UA Presents artists whenever possible, and JazzWerx bands perform for their special events. JazzWerx high school students usher at Centennial Hall events.

We also collaborate with other local non-profit and arts organizations by performing at their events.
